About Van…

Van, formerly known as Vanessa, is a non-binary person who is a Student-Midwife, Doula, NAR, Rootworker, Sacred Healing Circle Keeper, Black Infant Health Minister, Community Health Worker, Lactation Peer Counselor, HypnoBirthing Childbirth Educator, Placenta Encapsulator, and Birth Photographer in Pierce County, Washington. They mainly serve clients living in their hometown of Tacoma, Washington. Van was driven to do this work because of the national Black maternal and infant health crisis. They value and support the mind-body connection, using mindfulness techniques to prepare clients for labor and birth. They focus on birth being a life experience and not a medical event, respecting the nonsecular and sacred aspects of birthing. Van plans to open a birth house in Tacoma, Washington after becoming a traditional midwife.
